This was pretty bad. *Spoiler alert* just in case someone hasn't seen it
For one thing the girlfriend is the most ridiculous character. "I forbid you" "everything you do is about me". She's clearly mental 😂. The entire movie could have and should have done without her.
Now the professor. The dude is literally banging one of his former students (and has been since she WAS his student) and threatening the life and future of another. I get that this is supposed to bring about more drama for the film, but his characterization is so far out of left field that it takes away from the entire film.
Then there's the lady with cancer. Why is she included at all? Her story line is unnecessary to the overall story, and is only included to further the trope that atheists are bad people. Never mind that it doesn't really make much sense. Her car was broken into just to introduce that she was dating the hot shot career guy. Apparently her entire career consists of reporting on Christians and why they're bad? Then after she finds out she has cancer and just goes off the rails?
Now on to the hot shot career guy. He's clearly a dick, but he was only written that way to further that trope again. His entire characterization is that he's the biggest dick he can be, in every way. The scene with his mother was a good scene though I'll give them that.
Now to his sister. She's the student who's dating the dick professor. We're supposed to see her as this sweet lovely Christian, but she took this man's class and got an A-. If that's the case then she sat through that first class and stated that God is dead. Ooh such faith she's clearly got. Not to mention banging your teacher.
The Muslim family was just ridiculous. I mean really? The author has clearly got a lot of hypocrisy. Faith is good, but only if it's Christian faith. All those who aren't Christian are bad people who abandon their parents, throw their children out, abuse their power, and persecute Christians. Smh.
The pastor and his friend were written well. His friend is funny. One of the only redeemable qualities of the movie.
Overall, the plot sounded great, and it could have been a great film, but they fell so short they never even left the starting line. With the way it was written, it would have been far better off if it went like this:
- young Christian man starts an extra curricular debate class in an effort to prove God is real. He and his peers discuss.
- in the mean time his pastor, who encouraged him to take this on, sets out on a vacation to Disney land with his good friend but they hit some bumps along the way.
