A story about how a man delved into insanity throughout his life, many may think that this would be a documentary on a killer however instead its one of the most profound musical careers ever. Jeen-Yuhs, a documentary on the musical career of Kanye West who now goes by Ye, this series goes into Ye’s lifespan which starts as a creator of beats and then follows him throughout his life and how he progresses through it. Jeen-yuhs was directed by Coodie and Chike, although names not know to the mainstream they did a great job with both filmwork and narration. The narration throughout the film goes from a 3rd party perspective who is close to Ye this gives the film a feeling of more homemade due to it not being professional and shows the personality of the narrators. The storyline from the documentary was surprising introspective this was due to how close the narrators were to Ye as a friend. It shows the multiple different sides of his personality which is a refreshing take from the usual one sided documentary style of painting them in a strictly bad or good light. I believe although there is bias throughout the documentary it is kept to a relative minimum which is good to see a more objective look through a lens. Personally this documentary is one of my favorites, going through an artists life slowly depicting some of his greatest achievements and also recording when he started falling from grace. It shows you a side of a celebrities mind which is often kept away from the general public through this movie you become attached to his personality and can see the different thought processes running through Ye’s mind. Although I have personal bias due to already being acquainted with Ye’s music I do believe that if this documentary was rated on a scale of one hundred it would be ninety-two out of one hundred. The cinematography was beautiful showing the different parts of chicago with a different insiders perspective on how it was down there. Although there is little to no technical interview the audience is still able to build a connection with the musician and learn his personality through the camera. As you learn more about Ye’s life you see the different masterpieces of work come to life as he produces the beat. Some parts of Ye’s life that no one thought would ever come to life were captured on this film and for fans of Ye it was truly one of the best introspective documentaries. This was also a giant documentary for the rap/hiphop genre as a whole because Ye’s music has been looked at repeatedly to inspire new generations and upcoming artist. Whether you love Ye or hate Ye he impacted the the whole music scene turning it into a different culture and cultivating different styles that he showcases throughout the documentary. That is why I believe that Ye’s documentary Jeen-Yuhs deserves a 92/100 and overall one of the best documentary made.
