It's bad in an uninteresting way. This movie tries at elements I usually love in a film, but its writing doesn't justify the way it presents itself as an artistic effort. The plot is extremely straight forward, enough that it could have been achieved in a short film with much more success. The attempts at interesting cinematic choices are fun...the first couple times. Eventually it gets boring to see the same color corrected scenes and uninspired camera shots. The script needed a complete overhaul before shooting, because there are too many redundant and overly lengthy scenes and the movie fails to effectively convey what it's trying to. Even the revenge action scenes are boring.
The strengths lie in Nicolas Cage's performance and the soundtrack, but there are few other upsides.
