*As of Episode 5*
First off, taking a character who is known for simply standing and being menacing and attempting to reboot them would be a challenge for anyone. In this show they don't exactly do a good job of it. This Boba isn't all that reminiscent of the armored menace from the OT, which is completely understandable. He's clearly been through a lot of change. The issue is that they simply don't do a good enough job of linking the changed modern Boba Fett to the old Boba Fett. Frankly this Boba Fett doesn't even seem that similar to the honor-bound, grizzled survivor Boba we were introduced to in The Mandalorian. Which again, would be completely fine if the show just connected the dots.
I'm a die-hard Star Wars fan and this was below my expectations. The flashback scenes were cool, and explaining Boba's experience with the Tuskens provided some backstory. The rest of the show is disconnected and doesn't seem to go anywhere, aside from Boba building up his syndicate. Episode 5 was the best episode yet in terms of story, but that's only because it was a Mandalorian episode instead of a Boba episode. Fennec and Boba's chemistry isn't focused on all that much, and much of Boba's character seems to be changed from the warrior we saw in The Mandalorian. Boba's healing arc is somewhat well-done, but there's hardly any reference to his past as a bounty hunter or his time with Darth Vader, which we really need in order to connect the modern Boba to the silent and menacing henchman we experienced in the OT.
Pros: Boba's escape from the Sarlacc, Temeura Morrison, lore on the whole "Daimyo" system, visuals, portrayal of the Tuskens/flashback scenes, general universe expansion, portrayal of the Hutts, Danny Trejo+Rancor.
Cons: Boba's character and motivations have little depth, but Morrison somehow makes it work. Fennec is regulated to a sidekick with not much of an arc (she was way more interesting in The Bad Batch and The Mandalorian). A whole episode was dedicated to Mando which takes a lot of potential story away from Boba considering there's only 7 episodes. There's no reference to other characters from ROJ and the first few episodes don't provide much direction for the show.
Verdict: Underwhelming in terms of the character's reputation and the standard set by The Mandalorian, but worth a watch. But they need to pick up the pace and give both Boba and Fennec some serious development. All I know is there's 2 episodes to go and it feels like we're still at the beginning of the show in terms of the story, whereas in the Mandalorian so much had happened by Episode 5. It's worth watching in my opinion, and it's not bad at all, but it could have been a lot better. We could've been taken on a redemption trip as Boba seeks to atone for his deeds from the OT after nearly escaping death from the Sarlacc. It could've been a high stakes story about dealing with the politics of the different crime families on Tatooine. We could've seen Boba calling some of his bounty hunter friends from The Empire Strikes Back or TCW to join his syndicate. Point being, it's a colorful mess, but it showcases how much Temeura Morrison brings to the Star Wars Universe.
