When people watch superhero movies, the comparison to Marvel is inevitable.
Zack Snyder's vision for a realistic world in which superheroes are needed is the first distinction to make between the two universes.
Batman has hubris, a dark storyline, and clearly requires aide in battle from his metahuman teammates. Wonder Woman can actually fight in this movie, especially when compared to her standalone films. Gal Gadot is clearly not simply there to look pretty on screen or flash her body parts at the camera. We are able to see the back story for both Cyborg and Flash, important for any future development, as well as are introduced to Martian Manhunter. The compelling plot lines and storytelling ability of Zack Snyder are unparalleled in this version.
In all honesty, if you're going to compare it by Marvel standards, it doesnt compare. Both film series achieve different goals. Marvel is made for the masses - a happy superhero movie where everyone ends up happy and okay. DC films are the real deal - they explore the loss and consequences of a world that requires superheros, build strong romantic relationships that show love indirectly between humans, and scenes that require a critical eye to understand where Zack Snyder is directing you.
If I want to tune out, I pick Marvel. If I want to be challenged, I will always choose Zack Snyder's Justice League.
