Extraordinary. Loneliness in the Big Apple never shown with more clarity. As a lifelong New Yorker I loved the subway, the beach, the many shots of the World Trade Center, the hot dogs, the bridges…all conveyed wordlessly without human beings. It was a fairytale of loss and redemption. I don’t think I breathed for 90 minutes. Thanks for this.

Spoof, parody, satire-you name it. Rom-com, action movie, special effects. It’s basically a movie about making movies. I loved it!!

Beautiful to look at and emotional to experience. What’s your life been worth is so profound. Kurosawa is also asking about how Japanese society should view itself. Can we recover as individuals and as a group? Timeless questions in a timeless film.

Unexpected. An homage to silent films, friendship, and the possibility of change. The music is wonderful and since the movie is 99% silent, it’s a good thing that it is.

A wonderful but mixed bag. The documentary aspect about capitalism, aging and homelessness rang true. Eccentric characters mix with disenfranchised ones. Amazon warehouse employment and a sharing economy. But the filmmaker needed a plot, I guess, so there are bits and pieces of family, romance, and the lure of a settled life. The plot didn’t cohere for me. I had too many unanswered questions. The documentary was very satisfying, tho.

Completely riveting. I had recently read a memoir by Cuban emigre Oliva Espin, “My Native Land is Memory: stories of a Cuban Childhood.” This extraordinary film, 45 years of casual filming of a selection of farmers and town families, complemented the book. New York documentarian shows us the Cubans’ spirit and their circumstances. Watch it!!

I’m 76 y/o, ok? So I’m not the typical demographic! But I learned a lot about beats and rap. I didn’t know the performers could speak/rap so clearly I could follow every word. I believed in these characters more or less. I loved the satire and Frank DiLella was so good! I super-loved all the NY photography and especially the subway which I miss so much in the pandemic. This film held my attention to the end and it’s way after midnight. So, I’m a fan. Thank you, RB.

This documentary brilliantly explains the Cambridge Analytica scandal that connects Facebook, Brexit, Trump and the way our personal data are stolen from Social Media and weaponized for political purposes. It’s very important and very well done. I watched it in 2020 after seeing Netflix’ “The Social Dilemma,” another data and democracy expose. These issues are not well understood by the public, even the educated public, which minimizes the problem with data privacy. I was in that category but these films have raised my awareness. Good documentaries are invaluable.
