I've been a fan of Rowan Atkinson since Black Adder. But I've always regarded him as a bit of a cheap comic. His performance as Maigret however has made me reevaluate him. The delicacy with which he plays the titular character is brilliant.
The series is brilliant as well, crafting interesting mysteries with a humanity that makes it all real. Highly recommended.
