6/10 for me .This show had very good potential but something about it is off. It tries to hard !! That’s the problem , too hard to be woke , too hard to be pro -black , you’d think a white person wrote it. Something about it is just not natural and relatable to any black person and that’s why just like other shows like ‘ Dear white people’ black People don’t rate it cause something about it seems forced. As a black person I appreciate it , the idea of it , and I see where they are trying to go . I just wish they made it more natural. Being black is not just a colour , being Black is having Gods spirit in you that’s why even if you paint another race of people as black no matter how hard they try I’ll still know they are not black. Maybe for season 2 show writers can try to be more realistic in their portrayal of African people in all their entirety. Also any Yoruba or African watching will clearly see that their portrayal of the Yoruba spirituality is fake. So they can work on that as well. However I do like the fact the lead actress is highly melanated , I don’t how they masculinzed her in the lesbian relationship aspect of the scene cause the last thing black women need right now is maculinazation. In all the show is a good show and has the potential to even be greater if it’s more relatable not in storyline but even in mannerisms , ,reactions and character development.
