The fact that Sia still decided to have this movie come out even after many people have proven why this movie is harmful! I will not support something so disrespectful towards Autistic people and neither should you. Please, if you’re seeing this and considering going to watch it, PLEASE DON’T. Sia claimed to have done research on this topic but she partnered with an Autism HATE group??? Playing the lead role, is a neurotypical actress when the character is autistic. If you don’t understand why this is a problem, there are many people willing to explain why the actress should be autistic as many people with autism become actors because they have been masking their entire lives. Sia had lied about initially casting an autistic actress but then used the excuse that “she couldn’t handle the environment” which is just admitting that the environment she created isn’t safe for the very people the movie is about. She has also bullied autistic people online! Like... what? She claims that the movie is to raise awareness but then she continues to do such things? The film itself contains harmful stereotypes bright lights and effects that aren’t autism friendly. Back to the harmful stereotypes, many neurotypical people are going to watch this movie and believe that all people with autism are like the main character and then they will continue to oppress people who display/mask differently. This film is just inspiration p0rn for neurotypicals and is just exclusionary to the community she says she’s representing. IF YOU WANT TO ACTUALLY BE HELPFUL TO PEOPLE WITH AUTISM, PLEASE DO NOT GIVE SIA YOUR MONEY BY WATCHING THIS FILM.
