The negative reaction to this show may well arise out of the compassionate humor that requires us to humanize and recognize our own depression. The idea that depression and dysfunction can be the product of a vulnerable kindness makes all of us less than heroes . . . or more. It is easy to recognize the brazen honesty that was evident in the invention of lying. It is hysterical funny and poignantly sad, often in the same punchline
