I was surprised to enjoy miniseries on an interpretation of the alternative culture in San Francisco from 60s forward.
Even more surprised I had to fast forward the male/male sex scenes especially where guys open mouth kissing just major turn off for me, but the emotional interactions and gay male storylines were entertaining to me as we're the broad spectrum of sexual preferences and gender identities. Amazing human diversity and real about how far we've come in last 50 years.
I don't think I'm homophobic but did have a real dislike in viewing the male male sex scenes. If you like that part, great, but for me it's like trying to make me like a horror show like Friday the 13, big turn off. I don't like horror although the Kill Bills movies were great, again, I fast forward though over the top gore (over the top being different for everyone) but I want to get to the best part dialogues then store lines.
Tales from the City I believe was on point with old-school acceptance, and privileged millennials trying force beliefs onto others ir virtue signal, (I'm a better person than you because I support and stand up for minorities, Even when I'm not asked to) and that's what made it all the more believable, as there are good and not so good people in all walks of life.
Gender, race, old, young, who are not discriminating or pushing it and believes in the other peoples' faces or spaces, because waving the rainbow flag doesn't make you a better person than someone who doesn't wave a rainbow flag.
We all make judgments based on our life experiences which mold who we are and this limited series did a good job of showing a broad spectrum of people who have been grossly marginalized until recently, thanks to good respectful decent human beings for showing the good side of things or seeing the good side of things rather than judging others, and finding or focusing on the bad.
If you're a little squeamish about the LGBTQ.... etc. whatever community, you might find this series enlightening or educational, at least, quite entertaining in my opinion. I recommend it.
