I will watch it again with closed captioning to “hear” more of what was said, but in spite of that, I was totally captivated by the characters, the plot, beautiful cinematography, and the deep love in many of the relationships.

It held my attention—3+ hours—the whole time.

Employees at a vintage movie theater find safe haven and community in one another, in particular a middle-aged white woman and a young black man who are there for each other when buffeted by the insensitivities and cruelties of the world.

A story about Russia and Ukraine in the early 20th century that is happening again. Took me places no film I’ve ever watched ever did before. Bleak. Informative.

I'm thinking about it the morning after.
