What an awesome movie. I found it on accident, but I know God made it possible for me to see it at just the right time.
To me, the theme of this movie is: trust God. Prayer is all about entrusting Him with the things that we think are beyond resolve.
This movie may be fiction, but the magnitude of desperation shown in each story line is truly real. Never think that the person next to you has it easy, because it's truly a fact that no one does.
I loved that this movie did not use a lot of "christian-speak", or buzzwords and phrases that seem to be hand-in-hand with judgemental actions. It didn't preach. We see Coach Paul lose his cool, lose patience at times, and lose control of his emotions in the form of painful tears. This is why the movie is relatable. On a side note, I loved how the Coach took such good care of his team; while he loses his cool to some degree, he keeps his anger in check, and he puts their well-being first. (Schools should use this movie to help guide their teachers, especially in coaching/athletics.)
Most importantly, this movie can appeal to anyone, no matter where they stand on faith. It's entertaining, if nothing else, but at best it offers the opportunity to evaluate our faith stance, or perhaps to start asking questions.
Interestingly, I was reminded that God's timing is perfect. I find it incredibly sad and profound that young Mr. Lashaway lost his life before the movie could even be released. It so clearly shows that God used him for an amazing, powerful purpose- right before his life on earth ended. I feel sad for the cast that had to lose their colleague and friend, but am so grateful this movie was released and given its place in the world.
