In the short, sad history of Disney Star Wars, this is arguably the worst thing they’ve put out. It makes ‘The Last Jedi’ seem almost reverent to the franchise by comparison. Great production values are constantly undermined by the inane scripting, bad dialogue, wooden acting, and boringly predicable plot ‘revelations’. It feels like a $200 mil high school stage play, conceived by the angstiest group of Emo-kid lunch table rejects Kathleen Kennedy could scrounge together. I’ve you’ve ever had any affinity for Star Wars as created by George Lucas, then I urge you to not watch this waste of a brilliant IP. It is genuinely franchise destroying on par with ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’, ‘Dr Who: The Timeless Children’ or ‘Highlander: The Source’ in that it fundamentally fails to understand what made the series popular in the first place. It’s the kind of bad that I’m not even mad anymore, or even disappointed, just mostly numb. If this is the future of Star Wars then I’m done, I am no longer interested what they are trying to sell me.

A great game if you’re looking to scratch a metroidvania itch. Eerie gothic atmosphere, huge world to explore, tons of gear to find, and satisfying combat all make for a lengthy, enjoyable adventure. Some quests can be frustratingly vague about what needs to be accomplished and magic feels underwhelming, but otherwise a solid play.

It’s essentially impossible to recommend this game to anyone at this point. In short, the game is a broken, barely playable mess. It took me less than an hour of play to encounter a game breaking bug that forced me to restart from the beginning. And that’s after I downloaded a 5 gig day one patch. Besides the myriad of technical issues, the core game play simply isn’t very fun. The enemy AI is ranges from stupid to hyper vigilant, which tends to ruin stealth game play, and the controls are sluggish and often unresponsive. As for the story, it’s a convoluted tale that jumps between three different timelines seeming for no more reason than to make the story seem more complicated that it really is. It is also no help that the characters range from boringly forgettable to down right unlikable. The two leads, Jen and Lin, in particular grated on the nerves; their dialogue is so bad and their voice acting so mediocre that I began to dread any scene with both of them in it (is which is sadly quite often). If you are looking for answers to the questions the first game posed, the good is news is that you get them, the bad news is that they are kinda preposterous and not very compelling. I loved the first game and bought this day one without bothering to read any reviews on it. I wish I had, because this was a waste of $30 and a huge disappointment. I’ll be genuinely surprised if this ends up getting the supposedly planned part 3. It’s really that bad.
