Unfortunately, this falls well short of the grit and narrative prowess of the source material. Michael B. Jordan's character is unconvincing as a family man, and even less so as a sheer driven force of will. It is probably best this movie didn't attempt to recreate the novel's story, as the director does not seem to understand emotional depth, or plot development.
