This is a book that informed, warmed and impressed me with a story combining love, sadness, and gardening! It tells of the experiences of a mother and daughter, the former reliving her experiences as a journalist during the Romanian dictatorship, and the aftermath of the fall of the dictator. She witnessed the horror and inhumanity of the orphanages. Her daughter, adopted as a child from one of the orphanages lives a secure and loved life. Gardening becomes her passion and her blog attracts a large following. The story of her struggle to overcome agaraphobia and to understand it's source, is depicted with understanding, strength, and unexpected love. I highly recommend this to all readers.

I enjoyed this book and was educated by it. I was woefully ignorant of many events of the sixties although I remember the excitement of Fidel's arrival in Havana, and later the Bay of Pigs incident. The optimism of all the brave Cubans, the unspeakable death of Che, and the revelations that emerged about the dark dealings of the USA, and clearly covered in this very readable book. The years since the events have shown little change in many areas of political progress but knowledge is a powerful thing and Ten Days in Harlem is an excellent contribution to the events of the sixties.
