Revitalising, enthralling and soul-enriching
The secret garden is one such novel that will always stay close to my heart. This novel took me to the Yorkshire moors and to the hands of nature during a time when I was suffering from mental health issues because of lockdown. There are myriads of lessons one can learn from this masterpiece.
The timeless classic mainly involves the transformation of a sick girl named Mary who lived in India to a healthy and lively girl that she became. The plot revolves around another sick boy, Colin who turned out to be Mary’s cousin and a village lad Dickon. They discover a secret garden in the estate where they all begin to hang out and the dying garden becomes exuberant once again as do the children. The nature heals the sick children and makes them energetic and lively as all children should be.
Frances Hodgson Burnett has not failed in wonderfully describing the enchanting beauty of English country landscapes and the magnificent Alps. Her excellent choice of themes and descriptions is matchless.
This is and will be one of my best reads.
