I have never been a fan of Lady Gaga, but this movie has forced me to reassess my opinion. She is much more talented that I have given her credit for. I found it ironic where she is first seen singing as I believe there was some gender talk early in her career.
Cooper takes on many of the issues Lady Gaga has faced in her career, including her looks and following the trends of being a pop star. I think this is what makes this movie so real and what makes It believable. Lady Gaga allows herself to be vulnerable and this lends itself to an amazing performance.
I have always loved Cooper. He should get a nod from the academy for his debut in directing, he managed to bring out the real vulnerability of these characters while setting the stage (pardon the pun) for a classic Cinderella story with a not so happy ending. And he can sing!!!
Anyone who says the storyline is shallow and the characters were underdeveloped was either not watching or they are emotionally blind.
Great movie 10/10
