I've noticed a lot of people giving "reviews" on here despite not even having seen the film. Quite annoying. I've seen the film. I've played the games. It's not a completely offensive representation of the Monster Hunter franchise, but it for damn sure isn't something I would go back to for a fun time. There was a joke in the film which can be seen as offensive to be sure, but if anything, that is far from its issues. The pacing is bad. We don't care for any character on screen except the charming Tony Jaa, who has no dialogue. Moving us mostly with action and a tad with the language barrier(s). Tony deserves better than what he's been getting lately. This and Jiu Jitsu are far from the best showcases of his abilities as an actor and martial artist. And this is far from the best that Wes Anderson can offer. Wes Anderson picked and chose specific monsters, and threw them into this fan fiction fish out of water story.
Milla Jovovich's character isn't anything to write home about. It's got cool action, but thanks to the film its offered in, it's certainly nothing I'll be coming back for. The ending was lame. The way they handled the monsters and their significance was lame too. It had some good effects, so I'll give it that. But yeah, for anyone who doesn't know what a Palico was, that wasn't a necessary inclusion, and only serves as a "Oh heeey! I know what that is!!" moment. As, unlike the games, the Palico doesn't really do anything to help our heroes and contribute to the plot. A lame "lol so random" addition to the film. Unanswered questions like; "why the hell was that Rathalos as big as an Elder Dragon?" and "how do Milla and Tony's characters understand each other so damn well?" come up and we get not so much of a crumb of background on that. We don't even seem to get the answer to the whole portal business either, when all's said and done. For shame.
