Initially, the show takes a bit of time to gain momentum. I must admit, I wasn't fully engaged in the beginning, but I decided to give it a chance after the first two episodes. And, to my surprise, it really found its stride from the fourth episode onwards.
In the early episodes, the series introduces us to the characters and delves into various subplots that revolve around the protagonist's love life, family dynamics, and personal history. Which I found quite repetitive and slow. However, at its core, it centers around a miscreant who initially sees sumo as a means to make money without truly respecting its traditions. As the story progresses, we witness a transformative journey as the protagonist undergoes a change in attitude and embraces the essence of the sumo way.
The entire season seems to be setting the stage for a promising second season, with some subplots left unresolved and an intriguing cliffhanger finale. I genuinely hope that Netflix decides to renew the series, as I believe a second season has the potential to surpass the first.
Before diving into the show, I recommend doing some research on the world of sumo. Familiarize yourself with glossaries and rules to enhance your viewing experience, as it can be confusing without some prior knowledge. Despite this, I highly recommend giving it a watch, but it might be wise to wait for a confirmation of a second season before getting invested.
