I almost skipped watching this movie after reading all the bad reviews and that's why it took me so long to get to it. However, I really loved it - probably not 5/5 but that's what I am going to give it to balance out all the previous bad reviews that nearly turned me away from this really good movie. Sure, it could have done with a better climax (the stupid spider tank was just horrible) but it is thought provoking enough just like the anime. And at least it made sense that Motoko would have a Caucasian shell. I love how Scarlet J always acts in these niche movies involving advanced tech and artificial intelligence! Definitely watch it if you want something different but not if you just want a popcorn movie.

So highly underrated movie! Loved it because of the way it brought the heroine from the real world into the Monster Hunter World without being too fantasy oriented at first. However, as the story progresses, more of the fantasy elements are added in gradually. They could have done without the opening sequence which had those fantasy elements and characters though. It should have just started with the army in our world scene. Without revealing too much, the fantasy characters who were added later didn't feel fleshed out anyway (although this could be remedied in a sequel which it was alluding to). Also thank goodness the terrible lines and acting at the beginning are quickly done with to introduce the fascinating chemistry between Milla Jovovich's and Tony Jaa's characters. Definitely watch this if you are a fantasy lover whether Final Fantasy, Mortal Kombat, Pacific Rim, Godzilla, King Kong or Lara Croft, this movie has something for everyone! I didn't think it would work at the beginning but they pulled it off like HellBoy! ^_^
