(SPOILER ALERT!)
(Here is the summary of the review)
The movie is much less predictable (unlike the first one) and feels more fresh. This move has become one of my favorite Spider-Man movies out there.
(8/10)
"Another damn Marvel movie!" was what I hought when I Spider-Man: Far from home released. This movie did not disappoint me though, infact I was pretty impressed. Far from home has one of the best and fresh villains MCU has to offer Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal).
Spider-Man: Far from home,is directed by Jon Watts, starring Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Jacob Batalon (Need Leeds), Zendaya (MJ) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Mysterio).
New York is a essential part of Spider-Man movies and comics and this movie tries to break the convention by taking place in iconic European cities. This movie has a smarter and a slightly more Mature Peter Parker and much more significant love story. This movie has two very important and impressive things, one is the villian Mysterio of whom I will talk about soon, and another is MJ. MJ (Mary Jane) has to be one of the most bold, smart and empowered versions of the character (my personal favorite) and just doesn't seem pretty and vulnerable as she did in the Sam Remy movies. She has much more character. This movie maintains the PG-13 Spider-Man charm. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) adds to the flair of the movie, he has a important role and is responsible for Spider-Man's key choices in the movie and his humor is great as always. The Happy (Jon Favreau) and May Parker (Marisa Tomei) dating plot point adds to the fun and doesn't feel unnecessary or abandoned. Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) has a brief role is not the most interesting characters in the movie her dialogues have some decent punchlines but the character feels very generic and uninspired. The change in the location somehow suited the movie but the could have made a more efficient use of the European cities.
Now the villain, Mysterio played by Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the reasons you should watch the movie. The character feels like a watered down version of his character from Nightcrawler (Louis Bloom) and Jake nails it. I honestly didn't expect him to end up in a Marvel movie but he did not cease to amaze me with his role in the movie. Every fight between Spider-Man and Mysterio feels like a brilliant video game cutscene. The unpredictability of Mysterio is thing that made this movie a memorable experience for me.
