I give this satisfying book five stars. The plot moves along beautifully and the characters are flawed and believable. The story is compelling and the author shows wise restraint in her decisions to not include the poetry of her fictional writer or to show sustained battle scenes. This is every bit as good as Gone With The Wind. There are some quirky British words and phrases that I as a US reader could figure out by context that enhanced the story. Read it with a box of tissues close by.
