I gave it two stars because the actors gave it their all. The convoluted storyline and flashbacks were difficult to follow at times. A lot of the scenes were a bit too melodramatic at times. The show should have been a 2 hour movie.

I just finished watching the final episode for this season…(I say this season because I am confident it will be returning!). The ending where the Korean women were interviewed in present time had me in tears. To kniw the hardships they endured yet they smiled and still were so beautiful and strong. Such a blessing! This is an amazing series with such great performances from sll of these amazing actors including the children. The episode with the earthquake was so enthralling and it had me in tears. It was so enlightening to gain insight on whatshaped Hansu’s character. It helped to shift my mindset about him. He was trying to survive the best he knew how. I highly recommend seeing this series through until the end!

The Righteous Gemstones is one of the funniest shows I’ve watched in a long time where I literally laughed out loud. It definitely fits the bill of a dark comedy. Each character is distinctly different in their level of weirdness! I find that they’re making light of the ridiculousness of the mega church genera without making fun of their core religious beliefs. These folks truly believe what they believe with all the pompous and vigor shiftiness of the typical greedy egotistical televangelist we’ve seen in real life. The family literally lives on a guarded compound where members of the family each have their own mansion….oh and they ride their golf cart to each other’s mansions. One may start out scratching their head when first starting out with the series but hang in there it gets better and better!

I’m going to be honest and state I was already hesitant to watch the show. However I started the series and was sucked into this abysmal world. I feel the premise of the show is a good one but unfortunately the execution of the show falls short. As I’m reading all of the high reviews I’m wondering if we watched the same show…..or were these people paid to say those things because the show is AWFUL! I found ALL of the characters to be very unlikable. I mean ALL of them are awful human beings. If these are suppose to be representative of the world of the Uber wealthy no thanks! The script is vapid and hard to follow. In their attempt to be “edgy” they use the F word as filler for real dialogue. Logan: The awful, repulsive, unloving father figure who belittles his children any chance he gets whether they’re alone or have an audience. Even when he had a stroke I had little to no empathy for him. Kendall: The second oldest dweeb of a son who appeared to be struggling to play the role of a grown up let alone having the ability to step into the role of a CEO. Even though I had little knowledge of the inner workings of their business world I cringed at every decision he made. Adding to his narcissistic, emotional immaturity he is a drug addict who at one point decides to blow meth with some other druggies. Roman: At first glance he’s this adorable little guy however he is a self centered, vulgar, repugnant, over sexualized vile human being. The scene where he closed the office blinds while he pleasured himself on the outer office window was so distasteful. It’s like the show tries too hard to bring shock and awe. Shiv: She is not as awful as her siblings but her character appears to be hallow. She does appear to be intelligent and determined but her character remains flat. I can’t help to wonder why she would choose her partner Tom. Greg: It’s hard to fathom a human being such a doormat and a buffoon. Tom: I simply don’t like him. He’s an opportunist trying to fit into a world where he doesn’t belong. I especially hate the way he throws the rock and hides his hand. Oh and the way he treats Greg is infuriating! Connor: The character is supposed to be a liberal, tree hugging, free love type but at his core he appears to still strive for his loathing father’s approval. He also has issues with commitment. Yet another unlikeable member of the Roy family. Marcia: I’m familiar with her from Ramy and enjoyed her work in that show. Though she doesn’t have much screen time she commands the screen. She plays her role well. She is the nurturing protect. Stewy: His character is distasteful as the other characters but I appreciate his transparency. This is just season 1! I desperately want to see it through and witness the characters develop and grow into more palatable human beings. I’m not sure if I can endure the rest of the seasons. I will at least try Lol!

Saw previews streaming on my Facebook page. Looked it up as soon as I got my daughter down to sleep. The movie initially started out as if was going to be a fun filled adventure with six friends. It honestly was not what I expected at all. It felt as if the movie was trying too hard: Trying to make it believable that these six caricature types could actually be friends. Trying to drive home the fact that 50 is old (well I know it is, I’m three years away) but it made it seem as if it’s such drudgery and for many it’s truly just a number and like fine wine (pun intended) life gets better. Trying to pit younger adults vs older adults (the old Millennials are this or that and older adults are the best routine......yawn) It was slow and predictable and honestly I fell asleep in the middle. I woke up to one of them laying on the back of a truck, one being bitten by a snake, and them rolling down a hill. They tied it up with a bow with a predictable ending. The actresses themselves are great. They simply didn’t have the best material to work with. I know it’s “Just Netflix” but we expect higher quality from Tina and Amy.
