Well done, Ayan, for coming up with the concept that needed an Indian flavor. But it's disheartening to learn that it took you ten years to come up with the whole plot, and all we got was "Mohabbatein," "YJHD," and "K3G" vibes. Maybe you and your team are far away from creativity, or the star cast you chose didn't allow you the freedom to maneuver your idea.
For the star cast, it's just a stroll in a park, as they never seemed to come out of their comfort zone. Actors like SRK will always try to capture the limelight with squirm comedy.
Alia and Ranbir are not having any idea about their character. Well, it might not be their fault because the plot is more on the romantic side than what the audience wants to see. If one spends ten years on a project, one should take at least ten months to audition the actors and how to build them. You can't show Ranbir as a Poor guy with those looks. You can't just show someone falling in love in their first meeting; from the next scene, they start fighting to save the universe.
Dialogues in the movie seem to be written by the actors, and the comedy they want to add starts to cringe at some point. You can't show a guy born to save the world from being so immature. I could not gulp that some moment ago; this guy was acting childish, and suddenly, he got more maturity than his Guru.
The VFX was good, but it looked like "banar ke hath me nariyal" as they added it unnecessarily everywhere. After some time, it all appeared gloomy. I hope the team plans, prepares, and give some time to choose actors and plot for the next part.
