Got to page 186 (of 270 or so) and finally gave up trying to find any coherence of story, timescale, place, or character. My mental state, like that of the lead character, became unhinged in Guatemala. Feel like a fool for persisting with reading that far. So, for the avoidance of doubt, this is a thumbs down from me for this particular offering from SF, whose books I have enjoyed previously.
