A chaotic critique/rant 300 hours in.
I really liked the first game, the second I think was good and an improvement to gameplay too. This... I came in with no expectation except that it would be just like the other two previous but it turned out the be very different.
My dislikes for the game is that it no longer had character... or lacked a ton of it. Not those characters you control but the overall theme, music and art like WD2! I loved that it was colorful, fun and tastefully silly. Very memorable theme music! WD1 was more serious and sinister.
And I really miss the phone menu. This one's menu just pops up fullscreen like any other game. In the previous games, you could walk or drive while browsing your phone. Even though the other games pop up a map or skill tree, it's the thought that counts when it's about using your smartphone to hack stuff or change music and call for a car which is also missing in this game. A major immersion downgrade for me.
The fluidity and animation have also taken a major hit compared to the previous games. I mean, who runs like these characters in the game? Some years back Ubisoft was all about those slick parkour maneuvers, now it's just bob 'n stop.
I really hope there's going to be a Watch_Dogs 3 with an underscore!
The story was short and forgettable, maybe except for that daughter who did that f'ed up thing to her- (not gonna come closer to spoilers). Bloodline was a nice revisit to old characters and IMO makes the game overall better but still not worth the AAA price.
The graphics are nice but the game takes up a terribly large amount of CPU utilization, especially on 4-cores 8-threads.
Online... so many bugs, glitches and sync issues. And only 4 players per session?! Quite disappointing. Project OMNI's difficulty is terrible for teams of strangers and newbies, and is practically a dead mission. And the tactical ops generally really need more narration guidance. The new PvP Extraction could do with some balancing as grenades are way too op and take out the fun.
And why do the cars accelerate faster than they can stop? Terrible brake implementation.
I really just can't imagine this game lasting. The player base is so low that not a single community challenge has ever been completed over the span of more than 40 weeks, except for maybe the first or firsts when players were flooding into the game at release, but I can't remember nor confirm. I don't understand why Buggysoft just doesn't lower the community target so who's left can at least complete it.
I like the hacking tho.
