This show starts well and ends well but episodes 3-7 are not thrilling at all and this is due to a number of reasons already mentioned but I'll say them again:
-not enough teams are covered. The show focused on the best teams and the worst teams but nearly all the teams who finished 7th-32nd were hardly featured at all.
-a lot of people complained about the American focus, which I didn't completely mind. Those teams were interesting but I wish we got to follow the Swedish, Japanese, Czech and Estonian teams as they seemed to have elite races that got no airtime.
-the sob/diversity stories were overdone. It would be more impressive to have their actions speak for themselves rather than be bombarded with race/gender/disability stuff. It provides humanity but grinds the drama to a halt.
-the production made many of the challenges look too easy. Either too much time spent on them or hardly any. The rappelling challenges were hardly shown.
-showing where all teams are at various points on a map would have been great or even a leaderboard that viewers could pause and see where their favorites were.
-even quick montages of teams getting eliminated would have been great. 42 teams finished. What about the other 24?
-Bear is fun but my God is he captain obvious. Why are you trying to communicate with people from an airplane????
Last 3 episodes were very dramatic and really resonated with me as numerous teams were unable to finish the race, showcasing for the first time just how brutal the course was. That river swim looked horrific.
Overall, worth the watch, but production needs to make this more enjoyable and highlight more teams!
