I read this book back in the 60's and then again in 1984. I would suggest that you read the book just before watching the film or even right after watching the film. The film itself tends to show snapshots of Winston Smith's life including his youth growing up among what looks like gray ruins of war and living in the dismal society that remains. The sunny moments you see come as Winston rebels in his way against Big Brother the all knowing all seeing leader and also during the time when he has been confined in the Ministry of Love for re-education. A dark well acted movie,
