First things first , having seen it on amazon prime , nearly two months since its release in the cinema halls , only a feeling of regret gripped me all over .
What a riveting watch it would have been on the big screen , with the intelligent camera angles , serene and captivating locations , sheer intensity between the lead characters , carefully curated dialogues , and some splendid acting prowess on display from not just the protagonists but other characters forming a part of the story as well .
The story stands simple , with an ego clash that snowballs into a mighty revenge drama sans the formulaic scenes . The in depth character sketch and arc added to the two protagonists Prithviraj and Biju , is the highlight of the film . The raw , honest and nothing to lose further yet hot tempered sub inspector on the one side and a haughty influencial yet apolitically ex havildar soldier on the other side , constantly oscillating between his guilt and ego , is a sight to drool over .
It’s hard to be critical about the length of the flick , and how the story revolves around the lead not backing off , and getting at each other consistently only to sign off with a fully blown head to head . But , considering the class and caste angles , the feeling ego , guilt , justice , anger , duty woven into the characters , the agony of an extra half hour should be overlooked .
To me the hero is definitely the villain shaded Prithviraj , who despite believing that he was grossly wrong continues to battle to not let his own image and that of his fathers down . To me , it’s his best work to date , where he shines particularly in those passages which let him exude measured restraint and aggression, humanness and concern in between .
The screenplay is top notch , for the story is a mere a one liner .
