I wouldn't say it is great. But definitely better than The Silent Night and Manhunt. But not as close as his 1989 masterpiece. Because it focuses on putting drama first and action later. And the drama has overshadowed the action, which is synonymous with John Woo. The second thing is that the characters have back stories, which dilute the killer and the cop relationship, which was the DNA of the first movie. Here, the cop and killer don't gel with each other, and I find the cop's side weaker to the killer. There are very few action set pieces that affect a lot.
And why he is giving so many homages to his movies, I don't understand. In Manhunt also he did it. It is good to give them, but it lacks originality. We are used to his spectacles in action set pieces, but here it hurts.
Nathalie Emmanuel is a saving grace. Omar Sy doesn't help as a cop.Â
I recommend it for the sake of John Woo only.
