Bart Grossman

This is my favorite show right now. The acting, writing and cinema photography are excellent. People criticize it for being inaccurate but that's not the point. It's not a documentary. It's a moving and gripping story that uses the Western medium in a new way, by focusing on a female character. Women of the old West have been ignored for too long, but the male characters are also interesting. The story of the father and daughter play beautifully with the typical, male silent hero by shifting the hero part to a talkative young woman. I think it works on many levels.

I really wanted to like it and I got through the first one giving it the benefit of the doubt but I only got half way through. the second and I just had to give it up. Terrible writing, terrible acting - how could they make such an awful mess of what could have been an interesting show? I'm just flat out disgusted.

They struck out on almost every level. The story is obvious and the plot is predictable. The acting is often rather wooden, except for the Sasha character, but she can't get any energy out of the others. The sex is actually boring. The bodies are impressive. Essentially, a waste of time.

Jean Smart is terrific!! Her intelligence shine through every scene. The episode in which she pays a sexist a-hole to leave the profession is just brilliant.
