I made the mistake (maybe not the worst I’ve made) of borrowing the book from the library after watching the first episode. The book made me so angry that I decided the rest of the series wasn’t worth watching. I don’t understand why Catherine kept the secret for so long and at the point at which she was going to lose everything, she still didn’t blurt it out. Such a disservice to real victims and such a terrible display of the husband’s reaction to a work of fiction that mysteriously shows up in their house. He believes the whole story without asking his wife about it? Come on. How stupid is he? From what I saw, the acting was good and the scenes were beautifully shot, but my goodness, what a mess of a story.

Not a great book.Two major holes in the premise and I will mention one, which wouldn't be considered a spoiler. If the case had already happened and was closed, wouldn't any capable author search the internet to find out as much as he could about it? This didn't occur to Anthony, a seasoned writer? Such a circuitous journey to the end. I only finished the book to find out who did the crime but now, a couple days later, I've pretty much forgotten everything about it. Except that I was really annoyed when I'd finished it.

I couldn’t finish the first episode. I hate those choppy bits of story telling, in which small glimpses are revealed for each of the (many) cast members. You’re more than half way into the first episode and still haven’t pieced anything together. I think Nicole Kidman is a great actor, but I’m tired of her playing the rich but wounded white woman, as she has is recent roles. The only thing of interest are the views of the metropolis that is Hong Kong. The rest is dreary and boring.
