The original film starring Liv Tyler is a master class in horror. This movie was like watching a movie called 'Jaws: Chapter 1' and the director makes the decision to show the shark at any given opportunity. It completely missed the tact with which everything was executed in the 2008 film. The original felt like a random act of violence that could happen to anyone, and grounding the movie in that way is what made it so effective. Any choices made by the director to do things differently this film take you out of the movie in a way that feels cartoony and absurd. If you want to see this movie because you enjoyed the Bertino film, do yourself a favor and just rewatch that one. If the trailer interests you as someone who hasn't seen the original Strangers, do yourself a favor and watch the original instead. Either way, avoid this one. It blows.
