I have watched this film a zillion times, beginning when it first appeared (I was born in 1940). Through the years I was fortunate to meet some of the cast members and they all said they enjoyed doing the movie and knew it was going to be a hit. I also asked them what they particularly remembered and they said they remembered how prepared everyone was every day and how much they enjoyed the experience. Bette Davis and Mary Wickes did several films together, and a T.V. pilot, and enjoyed each other's company. That shows in the film. Several variations of the story have been tackled over the decades (and decades and decades) but the original still reigns as the most witty and the most perfectly conceived. Most interestingly, this film has not aged. It is as fresh and funny as ever and every aspect--directing, cinematography, lighting (important to this film to be convincing), acting and music amazingly have not aged. In fact this film's age is part of its pleasures.
