I thought that John Christopher’s Tripods had been mixed up and adapted by accident. The script strayed so far from the original it became a pointless exercise to watch it as War of the Worlds. Where the original author was detected was the relationship between the two lead characters as this borrowed from Wells’ personal life.
If a script is going to stray from the original it should at least be gripping and entertaining but this was disjointed, slow moving and boring.
