I really, really liked both series of ‘Mars’. In an era of such negativity, this international enterprise (😏) captured for me the optimistic spirit of ‘Star Trek’ but with a very different, contemporary basis in the real world of this century. The documentary inserts might frustrate and seem preachy to some but for me gave the drama a strong didactic focus. A Brechtian type interplay between futuristic stories and current affairs drove home powerful ecological and humanist messages. The casting of such a mix of actors was also great, giving the piece a truly global sensibility.
(On a side note for older UK viewers,
it also reminded me a little of ‘70s BBC show ‘Moonbase 3’. The ‘off world’ geopolitical intrigues similar vein though fashions, pacing & effects have of course changed somewhat!)
Anyway... Best wishes to all involved in ‘Mars’. Thank you.🖖🏽
