This is a superb movie in all aspects - writing, acting, directing. I’m surprised there is no mention of the fact that the fatal flaw is that the parents REMOVED their son from the hospital, despite the expert advice from the hospital psychiatrist. It is common for a mentally ill person to play on the heartstrings of his loved ones, causing his well meaning parents to acquiesce. What troubled me was WHY did his father continue to keep the rifle at home, once he became aware that Nicholas knew of its whereabouts. To me, the metaphor of the washing machine running was profound; suicidal ideation going round and round in Nicholas’ head.

Maybe less than three stars. Perhaps I’m dumb, but what happens at the end? Does James die in a car crash ? He’s crying. Why? Another reviewer said he tried to make her go blind again, and she does. What is she faking ? The movie is so twisted we’re supposed to think that now she’s faking being blind to please her husband ? And her husband was told he couldn’t father a child, so I guess he knows by magic and innuendo that it was trust with the guy in the park? And fast forward several months she has the baby and she can see? I wanted to like the movie. Having written this so called review it only deserves one star. But she did look cool as a blonde as well !!! She’s Blake fricking Lively, of course she looked cool!
