One of the most poignant, moving and outstanding examples of Pat Metheny’s fantastic contributions to contemporary music. The merging of the superb ear and sense of formula by Alan Broadbent’s orchestral writing, arranging is subtly yet majestically on display in the masterpiece of the set in “Sixty-Six” that is bolted down by Linda Oh’s impassioned cut out at approximately 1:45 into this pure gem. Broadbent wisely leaves the initial bar’s unadorned as they need nothing but respect. While Pat takes over the stylish stick and brushwork of Sanchez is nothing short of brilliant. On Oh’s second breakout every element of Metheny’s brilliance rushes forward with arpeggios and glissando’s meeting at the crossroads of Broadbent and Sanchez. This single offering ends with a question rather than giving anticipated closure. Haunting refrains keep calling you back to ride on “Sixty-Six” over and over again...
