Sofia says to Cleo "Remember, us women are always alone." ... Cleo is a poor girl from a small village working as a maid for a doctor, his wife and 4 children in Mexico City. Her day off she goes with a friend to meet two boys. She ends up sleeping with the one named Fermin. She becomes pregnant but when she confronts Vermin he runs away. She confesses to her employer that she's pregnant and she is very sympathetic and takes her to a doctor. In the meantime, Antonio, Sophia's husband, leaves with his mistress. He does not send money and Sophia tries to keep it from the childten. Cleo goes to find Vermin to help with the coming baby. When she finds him he is hostile to her saying he wants nothing to do with her or the baby. She goes home, then while out shopping for a crib with the grandmother students are demonstrating and rebels come and start shooting people. One of them is Vermin who points a gun directly at Cleo. He runs out, Cleo's water breaks. Traffic is jammed, it takes a long time to get to the hospital. Cleol's baby is stillborn. Cleo is home when Sophia announced she's bought a new car and they:re going on a vacation and taking Cleo, not to work but for her to have a vacation too. They are at a beach and the two youngest children are in the ocean, drifting out; Cleo goes in after them. She gets them and then upon getting to shore, breaks down about her baby. Sophia tells her they all love het, not to cry. When they get home, Cleo is the hero for having saved the children and then life goes on. This movie was very moving. It showed much love between the children and Cleo and the humanity of life lived. I recommend it highly.
