Voltaire’s Candide is really the book one would read in the best library of their town, and therefore of the entire world. Seriously, this philosophical fairytale was truly a work of art and rightfully an icon of catholic literature then as much as now. Its values of optimism, the superiority of french catholic white dudes and that the church is not to be questioned are so masterfully portrayed through genuine, straightforward and unironic narration that even the King himself read it and congratulated Voltaire for his work by graciously gifting him a 5-star prison cell and a ticket to England. Truly worth a read, especially if you're a blind optimist like me!
