With countless fragments of a comet striking the Earth and causing disaster, Gerard Butler has to get his somewhat fractured family to safety before The Big One hits. The focus is on the family, less on the astronomy, distinguishing it from movies with similar plots, most notably "Deep Impact." There's no comic relief, which is a relief. There is a touching scene with the father-in-law.I found it consistently gripping and wonderfully acted.
