Less than 1/3 of the way in, I knew this would be an awful film. But in the way in which one sometimes fails to avert one's gaze upon coming across a horrific car crash, I kept watching just to see how truly awful the cinematic experience would be. My suspicions were correct. The dialogue was awkward, forced, and contrived; the Spanish spoken by the supposed Mexican characters was substandard, at times sounding more like pig Latin with touches of Klingon; the acting was truly terrible and unconvincing; the plot was implausible and ridiculous. Clearly, attempts were made to copy "Sicario" here, even with the plummeting bass sounds as part of the soundtrack denoting evil. As if it weren't awful enough, there is a gratuitous rape scene framed as flashback to a memory from the antagonist. I suppose this scene was inserted to convey the moral bankruptcy of the border agent recalling it, but it was an unprompted confession to another agent with whom he already had conflict (including a fistfight). So it was not only gratuitous but invoked in an implausible manner. I regret having spent 1 hour and 45 minutes on this garbage. Don't watch it. It's too late for me, but save yourself.
