This album is Green Day's best, by far. Tracks like Castaway, Hold On, and Deadbeat Holiday help keep the music upbeat, while songs like Misery and Macy's Day Parade keep the album from becoming to watered-down and commercial. The one thing that I think stands out the most on this album is the pure distinction in each and every song, unlike ever seen before. None of the music blends together, like a few tracks from Dookie, Insomniac, and Nimrod had fallen victim to. The writing is probably peak in this album, and the music is just so sonically appealing. Every single song is iconic in its own right, whether it be the bizarreness of the instruments in Misery, or the slow, sad sounding vocals of Macy's Day Parade, or even the fun, upbeat choruses to songs like Castaway and Hold On. There isn't a single dud in this album, which isn't something I can say for any of Green Day's records. They really outdid themselves with these piece of art, and it's truly sad that it had flopped so badly. An easy 5 in my books, I could listen to this for days on end without getting bored.
