What a beautifully written, brilliantly acted, brutally honest and captivating series! As a devout Muslim, it is such a gift to be welcomed into the personal lives of my fellow brothers and sisters of the book! The Torah plays such a big role in the lives of the Shtisel family, which is so validating to see. It is often Muslims that are called out for our inability to assimilate... but after watching this I see that it is not faiths that are different, but everyone’s levels of adherence to their books. Aside from saying prayers in Arabic rather than Hebrew, I see my family in every member of this family. From the marriage struggles to the work boundaries to the many routines and rituals, I am so happy when I’m watching this series. I am learning so much and have fallen in love with Jerusalem! The best line so far...when Akiva tries to get Rabbi Shtisel’s attention by announcing he’s converting to Islam. The response....“perhaps that would be good for you” :) Little do they know that surrendering to God is exactly what they are already doing. God is one! Mazel Tov!
