Such a missed opportunity.
Overall as a stand alone the movie was good. Loved the throw back tech, it felt like the original Alien movies in this regard. It was fun and well an Alien movie. Although there was one "huh?" Moment that i won't spoil.
But that's where it ends. I feel like they really missed an opportunity to thrill the franchise fans and keep within the timeline intended.
Hear me out: this movie is supposed to be "Alien 1.5" between Alien and Aliens but the only indication of that is the wreckage of the Nostromo that is quickly shown.
Instead they could have made this about Ripleys daughter and her search for her lost mother.
At the end of Alien she destroys the Nostromo and goes into cryo in an escape pod. When she is finally found 57 years later she finds out that her daughter who was what 8 (?) when she left on her contract had died of natural causes.
This opened the door for Romulus to be about her daughter searching for her lost mother, finding Nostromo wreckage and then aliens do their thing and she fights them as vigorously as her mom did... this would have truly connected the films and made room for some Ripley flashbacks, maybe some mom memories...and offering a bit of a review of the first movie...
Scott didn't give us the last of the prequels, the least he could have done is give us a Romulus that was truly connected to the original movies.
Disappointed...
