I’m glad we rented it instead of paying to buy it or see it in theatres. The “scares” were not only predictable but underwhelming. The set up to the plot (first third maybe) seemed promising but as soon as the story takes its major dark turn all of the writing just dulls. Honestly most of the movie I wasn’t scared I was just disgusted or sad. 3/10

It’s a cute movie. I thought Justice Smith’s acting was hit and miss throughout. The plot was very predictable save for a couple unexpected but unsurprising twists. For me the cgi was fairly strange looking, namely the textures of many Pokémon. However, this movie doesn’t take itself too seriously (thank you Mr. Reynolds), it’s a wonderful throwback, the characters were colorful, and overall I enjoyed it as the goofy kid’s movie that it is.

This film is a masterpiece in my opinion. It takes on every aspect of love that it can. It relays with heart the hardships of the Vietnam war. It creates beautifully deep, unique characters with intricate relationships. It delves into the challenges of life, love, and friendships all while incorporating not only heartfelt covers but many Beatles easter eggs.
