If you like melodramatic cliches then this is the film for you.

This is a very charming family story by a very untraditional family setting. The lesson is that love is what makes a home.

While rich in imagery, "The Green Knight" fails because of its lack of respect for the source's tradition. We have a rapidly aging Arthur, and Sir Gawain, a cowardly man who is a drunkard. It is more like a Postmodern attack on the tradition of tales of chivalry. When you have a character telling our so called hero that she correcting the stories she writes down, that is just the director saying he can destroy culture and tell lies. There is in the space of the film not one brave hero. In the end we have a thinly veiled attack on masculinity. You don't need to see it.

This was missed opportunity. It loads the viewer with scene after scene of racist terror and gives us very little else. Pretty much everyone is a victim, including the viewer. Don't waste your time on it.

Sheer cinematic poetry. A war of two men. It is absolutely beautiful. Watch it.

Unlike professional critics, who don't write novels (I do), and don't understand adaptation, this film was a like a Bach fugue transposed from violin to guitar. I own and have read the novel, a great work of literature. It is not a bad film at all. The acing is astonishing. And the editing is fantastic. I instantly understood Theodore. You will remember how you were before seeing it, and how you changed. Good art challenges your world view, and this movie does make you question your assumptions. Watch it. It is a magical experience about innocence and the world. If anything, it teaches us about regret, meaninglessness, and the redemptive power of kindness, loyalty, and love. Ignore the critics. They get paid to be disenchanted. I don't get paid a penny for my opinion, and I say this is great art.

I have read some very petty reviews from the "fandom" of Peter Jackson's follow up to "The Lord of the Rings", and for that reason I avoided these films when they were released 8 years ago. Even after that I avoided them on DVD. However, I recently got a free copy of them from a neighbor moving, and have finally watched them. My opinion? They are wonderful. They in no way deserve the hate they get from toxic "fanboys" and lovers of Tolkien's books. When I hear people complain that they disrespect the source material, I laugh. Tolkien was a great master of fantasy, but the Hobbit is far from perfect from itself. It is a children's book, and is full plotting problems itself. There are giant plot holes in it. In addition to this is the problem that every filmmaker faces in adapting a novel into a film. Film and fiction are about as closely related to one another as art forms as apples are to oranges as fruit. Peter Jackson did a fantastic job adapting the Hobbit to the screen. I really feel sorry for him. The Lucas Effect sandbagged him. His core audience, by which I mean TLOR fans were nasty to him. It must have broken his heart. Don't let the fandom decide for you. The Hobbit films are delightful films. They are full of spectacular entertainment. Watch them. They are amazing!

Not a worthy successor. Three movies stuffed into one. I loved the first, but the ball was dropped on this one.

Fall very short of the engaging predecessor. Skip it.

Its premise delivers far more than execution. While there are moments of mild humor and honest insight, it is hampered by its politics. What could have been a ground breaking moment in comedy has been reduced to half hearted comedy that spares all its characters indignity. Moments of courage are not even phoned in, they are Tweeted and Snapchated in. If we are expected to believe this is a raw critique of Millennial life then the joke is on the audience who is served up a mild series of "poor me" jokes, and tropes that refuse to shock or offend. That is not comedy, it is social politics. I had hoped this would have had more couraged and challenged me about any existing prejudice I have or am unaware of towards disabled persons. What it does is bubble wrap everything in cheap one liners. No thanks Netflix.
