UPDATE: I cant believe this show has 3 seasons! LOLOL and 3 characters left the show!!!
I've watched many K-dramas for a while now, way before Netflix had any Korean shows on their streaming platform and I've got to say that after all these years, I've never seen a show I disliked so much until I watched this. Usually I pick a random k-drama and 9/10 times the show is great. If not, its usually decent. But this particular show was so bad I had to leave a review lol.
After a couple episodes, it seemed to me like an old person with an outdated mindset wrote the script. So I did some research and found out that I was correct lol.
I kept watching to see how bad the writing in the show was and my goodness, it just never ended. I can't count how many times Phoebe (the writer) would make the characters quote some ridiculous phrases starting with " They say ( insert ridiculous phrase/quote here ) ". It was so annoying because the characters would do this at least 5 times in every episode and It got to the point where I would skip these ridiculous conversations.
Out of the 32 episodes that I cant believe I watched, I can recall only maybe 2 episodes that were decent and interesting. The episode with the younger daughter confronting her dad, and the " perfect " husband finally getting caught. That's it. Everything else was unmemorable and boring that I had to skip most parts. They literally dedicated one full episode with the husband and wife sitting down, talking. Nothing else, just one full hour of talking and the whole time the husband is trying to justify his cheating while quoting or phrasing some ridiculous old saying. Apparently its difficult for Phoebe to not include this in literally every episode. If someone can find an episode where it's not included, I'll give them 100 bucks lol.
What really made it more difficult to watch was when the in-laws or friends would encourage the woman to stay in the marriage in order to save face and to " let it slide". Basically throwing away their self - respect. I'm not sure why they kept encouraging it so much but maybe it's because Koreans view relationships or marriages differently then westerners ( I'm probably wrong ) but it was incredibly irritating to watch. I feel like if you're not happy in a relationship than just leave. Why stay and suffer?
The ONLY positive that I have to say about this show is that the actors and actresses did their best with a horribly written script. I'm sure the actors/actresses didn't mind but I feel the show could've been better with a different writer. With the money and resources that Netflix has, I cant believe they chose an old lady whose mindset is still in the 1900s. We're in 2021 now lady, things have changed dramatically.
Netflix really disappointed me with this one. There is literally multiple K-dramas that deserve to have a 2nd season by now. We have Arthdal Chronicles, Vagabond, Sweet Home, Extracurricular, etc. Out of all of these amazing shows I don't understand how this one got the second season before them. It's ridiculous and for that I give this 1 star. ONLY because the actors/actresses did their best. Everything else. GARBAGE.
