Gully boy is a complete package in sense of entertainment and sending an important message. It makes you groove to the beats and at the same time inspires you to chase your dreams. It is intense. It is truthful. It is unpretentious.
The whole film seems like a poem. An intense poem. It has a lot to say, only if you carefully listen!
Though the story is predictable (even from the trailer), you get hooked to it right from the first scene. That’s the power of zoya akhtar’s writing-direction and performances of each and every actor. It’s hard to point out a single actor who has failed to deliver. This one’s undoubtedly Ranveer’s best so far. But, Alia, Siddhant chaturvedi, vijay verma, amruta subhash, jyoti subhash, kalki, vijay mourya, vijay raaz, every single actor is top notch too.
Almost all the scenes seem well written, well thought, well performed. There are lot many things going on apart from Murad’s success story, and that’s what made it worthwhile for me. It very subtly addresses issues like, gender equality, poverty, child labour and many others (if you remember sky and her friends’ painting nightout.)
Gully boy is revolutionary because of its music. You don’t get to hear pure rap songs that too in a mainstream hindi commercial film very often. This courage alone needs a round of applause. The album instantly became a hit as soon as it was released. I was curious to see how they have placed these songs, without making it look very forceful/strategic. And i am happy to say, i was not disappointed at all! The songs come very naturally and with the flow. You’ll love the songs even more after watching the film!
It basically has everything for every kind of audience. It has a love story, a success story, adrenaline pumping songs, poetry, intense moments and what not. The starting of 2nd half seemed a bit slow and off track to me. But the whole film is so perfect, that it doesn’t matter much.
This film needs minimum 2 times viewing and is totally worth all the hype!
